Florida Mental Health Resources, LLC was founded in 2020 by its owner Tania P. Alfonso, a Board Certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and mental health care provider who has been working for several years in the health care industry. This office-based practice was opened with the intention to expand the availability of resources to address the growing needs for mental health services within our community. Our company aims to provide a wide range of behavioral health services organized within a comprehensive, safe, and nurturing environment to ensure continuity of care.

Tania P. Alfonso is a highly skilled and dedicated autonomous Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) with a profound commitment to patient-centered care. With over two decades of clinical experience spanning primary, acute, and long-term psychiatric settings, she has devoted her career to addressing the mental health needs of children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly. Her expertise includes substance use disorders, forensic psychiatry, and community-based mental health care, all while fostering resilience and emotional well-being in those she serves.
Currently pursuing her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) at Walden University, Dr. Alfonso is committed to advancing her scholarly and clinical expertise in psychiatric nursing. Her academic achievements reflect a strong dedication to excellence, earning a Post-Master’s Certificate in Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner from Maryville University (Summa Cum Laude) and a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from West Coast University (Magna Cum Laude). She also holds a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from the Medical Sciences University of Havana, Cuba, further reinforcing her robust foundation in medical sciences.
As an independent psychiatric provider, Dr. Alfonso operates her private practice, Florida Mental Health Resources, LLC, where she delivers comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and psychotherapy via in-person and telehealth services. Additionally, she collaborates with multiple mental health organizations across Miami-Dade and Broward counties as an independent contractor, ensuring vulnerable populations receive evidence-based psychiatric care. Her bilingual fluency in English and Spanish allows her to break linguistic and cultural barriers, promoting equitable access to mental health services.
Beyond clinical practice, Dr. Alfonso is deeply committed to nursing education and mentorship. She is a clinical preceptor, guiding and training future psychiatric nurse practitioners in adult, geriatric, pediatric, and special populations psychiatry. Her academic contributions include teaching medical-surgical and psychiatric nursing at Southeastern College, where she played a key role in developing future nursing professionals.
Dr. Alfonso’s leadership extends beyond patient care. She has served as Director of Nursing Behavioral Health Services at Larkin Community Hospital and Assistant Nurse Manager at Palmetto General Hospital, where she oversaw psychiatric units specializing in adult and geriatric psychiatry. Her expertise in psychiatric crisis management is complemented by specialized training in aggression control, tele-behavioral health assessment, and crisis intervention.
A distinguished Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing member, Dr. Alfonso remains dedicated to advancing psychiatric nursing through lifelong learning, clinical excellence, and mentorship. She actively educates her patients on the risks and benefits of psychiatric medications, empowering them to make informed decisions about their mental health.
